Educational goals:

This Course intends to educate health care operators in the task of assisting and counselling women during the period of pregnancy, during childbirth and postpartum, setting up and carrying out natural childbirth under his or her own responsibility, and providing care to the newborn child. Practical activities and apprenticeship are carried out in compliance with European training standards, according to the Directive 80/154/EEC.
A graduate may – within the limits of his or her competence – take part in health care and sex education work both in a family and community context, preventive psychological preparation to childbirth, preparation and support for gynaecological operations; prevention and ascertainment of tumours in the female genital area; maternal and neonatal care programmes; the graduate, as a member of the health care team, in compliance with professional ethics, handles those care interventions which fall within his competence; is able to identify potentially pathological situations calling for medical intervention and can carry out, when necessary, the relevant special emergency measures; contributes to the training of the support staff and shares directly in updating the professional profile and in research.

Employment opportunities:

The graduate Obstetrician may work professionally inside public (Health Care Boards, Hospitals) and private bodies (Clinics, Nursing Homes), either as an employee or as a self-employed professional.
