Technology for Health - Main themes and areas

The PhD program is aimed at the development of scientific profiles having a close relationship with the Health with the help of a well established synergy between the various competences of the different areas of the University and in particular between the area of Engineering and Medicine,

The Phd program was focused, in the previous proposal, on the following five curricula:

  1. Analysis of contaminants in environmental and biological matrices and assessment of related health risks
  2. Computational modelling and analysis of biological systems and implants
  3. Biomechanics and mechatronics systems for biomedical applications
  4. New materials and protocols for Health
  5. Micro and nanotechnologies for biomedical applications

that are described to this link.

The Curricula of the PhD, in this new edition, are under development according to the modifications introduced by the Italian Law and to the suggestions of Health and Wealth Strategic Plane that promote development of activities along a framework defined by the following four areas:

  • Longevity
  • Environment
  • LifeStyle
  • Health and Wellbeing Technologies

New research interest has been addressed to the Regenerative Medicine considered as a branch of translational research in Tissue Engineering and Molecular Biology. It deals with the "process of replacing, engineering or regenerating human cells, tissues or organs to restore or establish normal function". Latest research interests include the following specific areas but are not limited to:

Biomaterials, Rehabilitation Engineering and Technology, Medical Devices, Endoscopic neurosurgery, Sensors and Instrumentation for Health, BioInformatics, Controlled Drug Delivery, Biomolecular interaction analysis.

Research focuses both on theoretical models, methods and technologies to support design of applications, software and hardware systems, together with tools and prototype device development.

Stage periods in distinguished research institutes abroad are mandatory since they are an essential feature of the PhD candidate training.
