Learning evaluation will be performed in two ways, that can be chosen by the students. The first one consists of a written exam (with a duration of approx. 2 hours) and an oral exam. The written exam is composed of 10 questions, either yes-and-no or open-ended, about the concepts and notions and case studies presented during frontal lessons. The maximum grade for the written exam is 24/30. A student is eligible to sustain the oral exam, about all the arguments of the course, if he/she obtains at least 18/30 in the written exam. The oral exam allows to obtain at most 7/30, for a total of 31/30 (“30 cum laude” grade). The second examination modality consists of a team project, where the number of students within the team may vary from 1 to 4. The project must start from the deep understanding of a state-of-the-art approach or a case study, agreed upon with teachers. Team members will be asked to identify which techniques and tools, among the ones presented during the course, have been used in the considered approach or case study, critically analysing motivations for their adoption. Moreover, team members may propose some improvements, if properly motivated. At the end of the project, a report will be required, to be delivered to teachers at least one week before the exam, as well as the preparation of a set of slides to present the report to the teachers during an oral exam. The evaluation of the report, expressed from 0 to 30 points, will be structured as follows: (a) evaluation of the critical analysis of the state-of-the-art approach or case study (up to 14/30); (b) evaluation of proposed improvements (up to 10/30); (c) evaluation of the oral presentation of the report (up to 7/30). For a total of 31/30 (“30 cum laude” grade). During the oral presentation of the projects, questions about all the arguments of the course could be made. Oral presentation will be also used to differentiate the final grade among the members of the same team. If a team (or a team member) does not pass the exam (that is, at least 18/30 points have not been obtained, including the oral presentation), the team (or the team member) may revise the same project up to a maximum of 2 additional attempts in as many exams. If a team (or a team member) declines an assigned positive grade, the team (or the team member) may revise the same project only once in a different exam. When such a number of allowed attempts has been reached, a new project will be assigned. In any case the students may decide to change the examination modality.
