Specific objectives:
Know and experiment a methodology for taking ethical decisions, through case analysis and discussion.
Promote among the learners an ethical culture by paying attention to the ethical problems that nurses and midwives live both in extreme situations (the beginning and end of life) and in daily care work
Deepening the issue of non-proportionate care: doing more does not always mean doing better.

General objectives:
Most of our behaviors are more or less consciously influenced by ethical values ​​and principles. Everyday life is infused with behaviors and choices that contain implications, dilemmas and ethical conflicts, even if they do not always appear to be immediately apparent.
The course is an opportunity for students to grow, thanks also to a practical and relatively easy method (Fry-Johnstone), in everyday problems so that decisions and facts are not too detached from the reference values.
In a changing health system, where the "health product" is being increasingly valued in function of a correct rationalization of health spending and where institutions (companies) are required to pursue efficiency goals, the ability to manage available resources it assumes a fundamental importance not only from the managerial point of view but also from the ethical point of view.
It happens, in our daily care to take care of the patients entrusted to us, to experience a feeling of loss / discomfort when faced with choices or requests that seem disproportionate to us: too much (persistent?) Or too little (renunciation?) Compared to the clinical condition.
Every day midwives and nurses are required to make ethical decisions during the care of their patients. Ethics in nursing practice provides the background necessary to understand ethical decision-making and its implications for patient care.
