The course aims to train the student to read and analyze the existing building, offering tools and methods for learning a proper path to the preliminary investigation of the restoration project. The course includes an introduction to the theme of conservation and multidisciplinary reading of the built environment. The course will deal in particular with the aspects related to reading applied to the material of the construction: from the geometric survey, to the survey of the constituent materials, to the recognition of the forms of aging and degradation of the materials, to the techniques for the conservation of the materials themselves.
The course deals with the theme of the restoration of architecture with particular attention to the study of the state of conservation and the intervention’s techniques.
Theory and history of restoration. Longimetric and geometric surveys. Use of photo-editing programs in the field of architectural heritage. Description of historical construction techniques and traditional materials. Non-destructive investigation techniques for the diagnosis of historical structures. Archeology of architecture. Types of degradation and techniques of intervention.

3 hours of theory and 2 hours practical exercise or visits to restoration sites every week. If it's need the lesson on line we will use the software meet or zoom ecc.
The examination consists in the discussion of the elaborated products and in an oral test on the contents of the lessons and on the bibliography of the course.
