It is important the knowledge of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics (Economics I and II).
Knowledge and understanding The course of Macroeconomic outlook and policies will offer to the student the fundamental knowledge to analyze the key economic facts at the national, European and world level, as well as the crucial economic policy decisions. Applying knowledge and understanding The student will be able to adequately and effectively discuss the economic facts and economic policy decisions, with reference to real problems such as: globalization and international trade, European economic integration, competitiveness and performance of the Italian economy. Making judgements The student will be able to analyze and critically interpret the key economic facts, also by searching for and investigating data and information relevant for an adequate assessment. Communication skills The student will be able to communicate with various interlocutors, both specialists and non-specialists, her own reflections on the discussed and examined topics. Learning skills The student will be able to employ in an autonomous manner the method of study, the learned theoretical models and their applications in view of more deepened studies in the economic policy field.
The course of Macroeconomic Outlook and Policies allows students to comprehend the motivations, characteristics and effects of economic policy decisions in a global context. On the basis of the key economic models, the students will analyze and discuss the issues concerning the world economy, the European institutions and policies, the Italian economy.
Economic policies: macroeconomic and structural policies; objectives and instruments; monetary and fiscal policies; inflation, unemployment and growth. World economy: economic growth in the world; the BRICs and the other emerging countries; Globalization and trends in world trade; macroeconomic and trade policies in open economies; the main international organizations: Imf and World Bank, Wto, G20; the financial crisis (2007-08), the Great Recession and the varied recovery. The new protectionism. European economy: economic integration in the EU, from the Customs Union to the Single Market; the Maastricht Treaty and the EMU; the ECB and European monetary policy; fiscal policies and sustainability of public debts; the Eurozone crisis and the EU response. Possible institutional reforms. Italian economy: slow growth and economic decline; the main structural problems; the labour market: problems and policies; the public debt burden and recent budgetary measures. Economic scenarios: discussion on the recent trends in the World, European and Italian economies, based on updated reports of national and international organizations; future outlook.

Compulsory written exam. The written exam is 90 min. long and includes theoretical open questions (including graphs and equations when relevant). Some examples of written exams will be available to students and some examples of typical answers to the questions will be given during the lectures. The oral exam is additional and optional (to be taken after the publication of the results of the written exam). Possible researches prepared and presented by attending students will be considered for the final grade.
The examination programme is the same for all students, attending or not attending lectures. The former students (for at least 4/5 of the lectures), however, can study in deep some themes, by realizing presentations on researches carried out (by at least two students as a rule).
