The course aims to foster the development of knowledge and understanding from the statistical point of view of the issues of financial, business and economics analyses in general, in view of general management and with particular attention to the development of strategic skills and decision-making. The educational objectives are consistent with those characterizing the 2nd cycle degree programs in which the course is inserted.
Students who successfully complete this course should be able to:
- Understand foundations of financial risk management and business intelligence;
- Identify appropriate statistical methods and graphs for financial data analysis;
- Develop skills to represent and solve standard statistical problems in finance and business;
- Know the main multivariate statistical models for finance and business analyses;
- Use the personal computer to carry out financial and business data analysis.
Specifically, the students will gain the following skills:
1) Knowledge and understanding
The course aims to encourage the development of knowledge of the bases of statistical inference and of the main statistical models, as well as the ability to understand the statistical issues concerning the issues of financial analysis, in the perspective of general management and with particular attention to the development of strategic and decision-making skills.
2) Applying knowledge and understanding
The course offers the student the opportunity to learn about the IT tools useful for the development of advanced statistical models, as well as the possibility to understand its practical use with specific applications in finance, business and economics carried out in the computer lab.
3) Making judgements
In particular, the student will have to develop independent judgment in the collection, analysis and interpretation with methodological rigor of data, models and information concerning various financial and business situations.
4) Communication skills
With respect to communication skills, the course requires to acquire ability to know how to communicate with high appropriateness and effectiveness the statistical information and financial results, both in general and in business, to both specialist and non-specialist.
5) Learning skills
The course is aimed to provide the methodological and applied knowledge about the statistical inference and advanced statistical models necessary to face subsequent studies, in particular in the field of PhD in finance, business, economics and statistics.
