It is a written test that includes exercises and theoretical questions on the various topics of the course.
The theoretical questions are aimed at verifying skill 1 (Knowledge and understanding).
The exercises, which also require to interpret and comment graphs and the obtained results, allow to verify skills 2, 3 and 4 (Applying knowledge and understanding, Making judgements, Communication skills).
The skill concerned with autonomous study (5, Learning skills) is indirectly verified, as to pass the exam is made possible also by the autonomous execution of exercises suggested by the teacher for homework.
Students can take the exam in two ways:
Type A: "In itinere" and "Final" tests.
The in itinere test is carried out at the end of the first two-month period of teaching and focuses on the topics included into Part 1) of the program (Elements of univariate descriptive statistics). For this test a time of 45 minutes is scheduled. This test's overall score amounts to 15 (7,5 for exercises and 7,5 for theory).
To access the final test, students must satisfy two conditions: they must obtain a minimum score of 4,5 in the theoretical part and an overall minimum score of 8.
The final test takes place at the end of the second two-month period of teaching (students can choose the first and/or the second of the two exam dates fixed at the end of the course) and covers topics included into Part 2 of the program (Elements of Bivariate Descriptive Statistics,
Elements of Probability, Some random variables and their uses). Also for this test, a time of 45 minutes is scheduled; the overall score amounts to 16 (8,5 for exercises and 7,5 for theory); to access the final evaluation, students must obtain a minimum score of 4,5 in the theoretical part.
Final Evaluation: The final mark is obtained as the sum of the two marks in the in itinere test (which must be at least 8, with a minimum of 4,5 in the theoretical part) and the final test (which must be at least 4,5 in the theoretical part). The test is passed if the sum is greater than or equal to 18. Students who do not achieve this result by the end of the exam session in January/February must take the full test (Type B) in one of the later exam dates.
It will be given a final mark of 30/30 cum laude to the students who achieve a final score equal to 31.
Type B: Full exam.
The full exam shall cover all the topics in the Program and a time of 1 hour and 30 minutes is scheduled. It is a written exam and consists in:
-one test (exercises and theoretical questions) focusing on the topics included into Part 1) of the program (Elements of univariate descriptive statistics). This test's overall score amounts to 15 (7,5 for exercises and 7,5 for theory);
-one test (exercises and theoretical questions) focusing on the topics included into Part 2) of the program (Elements of Bivariate Descriptive Statistics, Elements of Probability, Some random variables and their uses). This test's overall score amounts to 16 (8,5 for exercises and 7,5 for theory).
To access the final evaluation, students must obtain a minimum score of 4,5 in the theoretical part of each test.
Final Evaluation: The final mark is obtained as the sum of the two marks in the two tests (Part 1 and Part 2). The full exam is passed if the final mark is greater than or equal to 18. It will be given a final mark of 30/30 cum laude to the students who achieve a final score equal to 31.
