No pre-requisites are required, however it could be better if students already attended the courses of Business Economics and Management
The course is designed to provide students with theoretical and practical understanding. The aim is to develop competencies of organizational analysis and organizational problem-solving capabilities. The program includes: a critical approach to organizational theory (first part), instruments of organizational design and analysis of organizational forms (second part), human resource management systems and learning processes (third part).Specific learning objectives include: Knowledge and understanding - Students will get familiar with the main theories and applications of organizational theories and approaches; Applying knowledge and understanding - At the end of the course students will be able to perform basic organizational analysis and diagnosis and to read and draw organizational charts; Making judgements - Students will be able to evaluate, under a structural point of view, simple organizations and to identify strengths and weaknesses of the structures; Communication skills - Students will develop the ability to communicate Business Organization contents both in oral and written forms; Learning skills- -Students will master the needed competencies to deal with more specific and complex issues in the organizational field.

Basic concepts and different theoretical perspectives; organizational theories in action; the relationship between strategy and structure; the division of labour and coordination; Mintzberg’s model; the dimensions of organizational design; the variety of organizational forms; organizational boundaries and relationships with the external environment; organizational learning; elements of job design and basic models of human resource management

The following teaching methods will be adopted during the course: Traditional lectures for conceptual framing and the development of specific knowledge and understanding: analysis and in-groups discussion of case studies to support the application of knowledge and understanding, of communication skills and the ability to make judgements about organizational issues; guest speeches given by managers and consultants to help students to further develop the ability to make judgements and their learning skills. An active participation is required to students into all the activities proposed by the professor.
The final exam will be in a written form. It will evaluate both theoretical understanding and problem-solving ability towards organizational issues. The exam is divided into three parts, each of them accounts for one third of the final mark. Specifically, the first part is composed by 10 multiple choice questions and it is aimed to verify students’ knowledge and understanding; the second part includes two open questions that will test students’ knowledge and understanding and communication skills; the third part is an open and “creative” question in which students are required to give an original solution to an organizational problem. It is aimed to evaluate students’ applied knowledge and understanding and their ability to make judgements about organizational issues. The course offers tutoring activities in English
This is a third-year’s course Schedule and rooms to be defined Students’ hours: Wednesday from 11.30 till 13.00 at professor’s office in Contrada S. Chiara. Any change will be communicated through university’s app. A set of afternoon sessions will be scheduled before the beginning of the semester.
