It is recommended (but not mandatory) to have some skills on simulation software.
The aim of the course is to make the student conscious of the existence of good practices in the design process by means of concrete examples.
The course wil be based on the presentation of case studies and applications mainly concerning with the principal components useful to constitute a kinematic chain, even complex. From these examples some methods and procedures for a good design process will be derived.
The functional design. The main steps of a design process. Motion laws. Types of kinematic chains. Types of mechanical transmissions with constant ratio. Types of mechanical transmissions with non-constant ratio. Parasitic effects in the dynamics of a system. Main actuators. Case studies.

Lessons will be executed in form of indifidual conversations followed by group activities. Some meetings will be organised with territorial companies, as well as, it il possible that some parts of the activity will be held there.
During the course some parts of complex projects will be assigned. They will be verified during the course itself. The verification will end with an oral exposition of the work by the student.
