DEVELOPMENTAL AND EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY

THE AIMS OF THE COURSE ARE:
- Present a reference framework of the main psychological theories regarding infant, child and adolescent development.
- Implement knowledge of the methodologies, tools and techniques for observation of childhood behaviour in educational contexts.
- Describe the behavioural changes that occur in the psychological functions from early life to adulthood.
- Describe, and explain on the basis of the various theories, the psychological processes underlying childhood development.
- Understand how the progressive experiences of relationships are learnt and processed in constructing the basic functional structures of the mind that regulate the individual’s behaviour.
- Acquire the theoretical and methodological skills to develop relationships with the individual infant, child or adolescent and with groups
- Apply the psychological competences in educational contexts and implement the theoretical concepts according to the issues to be faced within the profession
CONTENTS :
- Childhood developmental issues from a historical perspective
- Observation methodologies in Developmental Psychology
- Construction of the basic mental functions in the foetal and neonatal period. The future of the first 1,000 days of life.
- The first twelve years of life in the main aspects of childhood development: motor, perceptual, communicative-linguistic, cognitive, emotional, relational, social abilities and moral behaviour
- Parenting in childhood development: from potential parent to effective parent, of infants, children and adolescents.
- Preadolescence and adolescence. The main theories of psychological development in its main aspects: physical, body schema, identity, autonomy, relationships, social abilities and moral behaviour
PREREQUISITES:
Basic notions and theoretical foundations of the Psychological Sciences
TEACHING METHODS :
Lectures.
Working in small groups
EXAMINATION METHOD:
Learning will be constantly monitored through interactive methods.
In-depth studies on the topics of the programme will be presented, working in small groups, according to the specific interests of the students.
Learning will be evaluated on an ongoing basis with a questionnaire consisting of written questions. The aim is to assess students' learning by ascertaining the knowledge and understanding of the theories and concepts explained throughout the course.
The exam consists in an oral test aimed at confirming the pedagogical competences, educational abilities and learning skills acquired. The written and oral tests will be based on the reference texts indicated in the programme.
