Educational Goals

In line with the educational objectives of the CdS, this course aims to cover the fundamental terms and ethical issues regarding doping in order to improve the abilities of critical moral evaluation and rational reasoning of the students. At the end of the course students must prove to possess an adequate knowledge and understanding of today debates about doping and of the wide-ranging ethical implications of gene doping.

Content

This course encompasses three fundamental steps:
I DOPING A COMPLEX PHENOMENON
Traditional doping and gene doping: definitions; problems concerning the definitions of doping and their ethical implications; medicine, law, and ethics: three points of view on doping.
II ETHICAL FOUNDATION IN THE STRUGGLE AGAINST DOPING.
Spirit of sport and ethics of sport.
Arguments for and against the ban on doping.
III TWO FUNDAMENTAL ETHICAL ARGUMENTS AGAINST DOPING.
Psycho-physical integrity of the human person.
Nature and goals of sport as a practice

Methods of Provision

Conventional

Teaching Methods

Classes will be held on line, in live mode, according to the established calendar for the first semester.

Assessment Methods

During the examination students should demonstrate a satisfactory knowledge of the main ethical issues regarding both traditional and gene doping. They should also demonstrate a satisfactory ability of critical assessment and moral reasoning.
The exam consist of oral test during the exam sessions. The vote of the exam is expressed in thirtieths. To pass the exam a grade equal to or greater than 18/30 is required.
Since this course is part of an integrated course the final grade shall be the average of the grade of different modules.
