Prerequisites: pronunciation skills, listening comprehension, reading and oral discussion of fairly simple material in English. Grammar: the present; the past; the present perfect; the past perfect; the future; simple, continuous and perfect aspects of the verb; questions and answers; modals; sentence structure; relative clauses; prepositions; phrasal verbs; nouns, articles and quantifiers; adverbs and adjectives; gerunds and infinitives; the passive; miscellaneous; conditionals; direct and reported speech; word formation; numbers; phonetics; British English versus American English. Article translation, including reading more complex academic texts and engaging in conversation in English. The English requirement for applying to the course is intended to demonstrate competency in grammar and composition as well as comprehension and analysis of dense written material. In general, the English requirement is addressed by taking courses that the medical school recognizes as writing course. The medical English requirement is a university-wide writing skill that all students must fulfil. However, it is at the discretion of the teacher to determine whether a student meets the necessary requirement.
