The aim of the course is:
- to understand the essential elements of diagnostic, clinical and instrumental methodologies
- to understand the essentials elements of cardiac surgery techniques
- to understand definition, epidemiology, pathogenesis, anatomopathological and clinical context of cardiac ischemic disease. The student should be able to use diagnostic techniques to reach the diagnosis and he should know the correct indications to surgical treatment and the basic surgical techniques;
- to know definition, epidemiology, pathogenesis and clinical context of cardiac arrhythmias;
- to know definition, causes, pathogenetic mechanisms, anatomopathological and clinical context of the cardiac failure. The student should be able to use the correct diagnostic tools in order to reach the diagnosis;
- to know definition, epidemiology, causes, pathogenesis, anatomopathological and clinical context of cardiomyopathies;
- to know definition, epidemiology, pathogenesis, anatomopathological and clinical context of valvular heart diseases. The student should be able to use diagnostic techniques to reach the diagnosis and he should know the correct indications to surgical treatment and the basic surgical techniques;
- to know definition, epidemiology, pathogenesis, anatomopathological and clinical context of myocarditis, pericarditis, endocarditis, with particular reference to diagnostic and therapeutical techniques;
- to know anatomical and functional changes of the endothelium during cardiac and vascular pathology;
- to know definition, epidemiology, pathogenesis and clinical context of peripheral artery diseases, acute embolic, thrombotic and traumatic obstruction of the limbs, diseases of carotid artery, aortic and peripheral arteries aneurysms, varicose veins, deep vein thrombosis, atherosclerotic disease, indications and principles of surgical techniques.
