Educational Goals

"At the end of the course, the student will understand the structure and function of the major components of the eukaryotic cell with particular attention given to informational macromolecules;
- Will understand the structure and function of nucleic acids and their organization at the cellular level;
- will know the molecular basis of the expression of genetic information."

Content

"The course will cover the following topics:
- The cell theory
- Structure and function of the eukaryotic cell: The plasma membrane, cytoplasmic organelles. The nucleus: general characteristics and functions of the nuclear compartment. Nuclear membrane, nuclear pores. The cytoskeleton. The extracellular matrix.
-The cell cycle: regulation of cell cycle, mitosis.
-The DNA and the organization of the human genome.
-DNA replication.
-From DNA to proteins: transcription and translation."
