The vast majority of the energy conversion systems is based on fluid machinery, where the energy transfer between a working fluid (liquid or gas) and the moving mechanical parts of the machines takes place. The course is focused on the description of the most common energy conversion systems and fluid machinery, and on the study of the thermodynamic and fluid dynamic principles required for a basic understanding of their operation. A more in-depth study of this topic to the level required for fluid machinery design is postponed to more advanced courses.
This course is devoted to an introductory presentation of the most important energy conversion systems and of the machines employed in these systems.
