In order to register for the final examination the following are propedeutic: Physiology, General Pathology, Physiopathology and Clinical Methodology
Educational endpoint of the course of Chirurgia Generale is the knowledge of physiopathology, clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic basis of the diseases of the digestive tract, as detailed in the full programme.
The course of Chirurgia Generale focus on surgical aspects of digestive diseases. Module 1 is mainly concentrated on diseases of small and large intestine, and on proctological diseases.
Module 1 Full Programme: Surgical anatomy of small intestine, large intestine, anal and perianal districts. Benign and neoplastic disease of cecal appendix and of Meckel's diverticulum. Diverticulosis and diverticular disease of large intestine. Inflammatory bowel diseases. Hereditary gastrointestinal cancer syndromes. Colorectal polyps and cancer. Surgical aspects of functional disorders of digestive tract (including constipation and fecal incontinence). Rectal prolapse. Coloproctology: Hemorrhoids, Anal Fistulas and abscesses, Anal fissures, Sexually transmitted diseases. Anal cancer.

Frontal lectures and apprenticeship in surgical wards
The exam consists of written multiple-choice and/or open questions. Upon examining board authorization, an oral supplement may be requested by students with a 18/30 or higher score on the written part of test. In case of 10 or less applicants attending an exam session, the examining board may proceed to an oral test only.
