The aim of the course is to study the main optimization and simulation problems in warehouse, inventory and production management.
Syllabus:
1) Logistic systems.
2) The Operations Research method for the solution of logistic problems:
the Cutting Stock problem.
3) Warehouse design and management:
a) Warehouses (types, structure, storage systems, handling systems).
b) Warehouse design (dimensioning of the areas).
c) Warehouse planning (slot assignment, dimensioning of the picking lots).
d) Warehouse management (picking lots, picking, loading).
4) Production management:
a) Production systems (classification, models).
b) Production planning (trade-offs, Wagner and Whitin model).
c) EOQ, MRP, MRP II.
d) Scheduling (single machine, parallel machines, flow shop, job shop, an optimization software: LEKIN).
5) Excel for Logistics.
6) An optimization software: MPL.
7) Simulation for Logistics: Montecarlo simulation, computer simulation, a simulation software: ARENA, optimization of simulated systems: OPTQUEST for ARENA.
