The aim of the course is to study the main optimization and simulation problems in distribution management.
Syllabus:
1) Logistic systems.
2) The application of the Operations Research method to solve logistic problems: the Traveling Salesman Problem.
3) Transportation problems (freight transportation, routing problems, data, objective functions, constraints).
4) Arc routing problems (eulerian graphs, eulerian tours, the Chinese Postman Problem).
5) The Traveling Salesman Problem (hamiltonian circuit, an optimization model, heuristic algorithms, Bearwood's theorem, an optimization software: Concorde).
6) The Vehicle Routing Problem (the Multiple Traveling Salesman Problem, the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem, an optimization model, heuristic algorithms, an optimization software: VRP Spreadsheet Solver).
7) Transportation problems and e-business (the Backhauling Problem, heuristic algorithms).
8) Integrated distribution logistics (the trade-off between inventory and transportation costs, logistic networks, inventory routing).
9) Excel for Logistics.
10) An optimization software: MPL.
11) Simulation for Logistics: Montecarlo simulation, computer simulation, a simulation software: ARENA, optimization of simulated systems: OPTQUEST for ARENA.
