The course builds on the fundamental notions introduced in the preceding course of Fundamentals of Operating Systems (Sistemi Operativi) and aims at providing advanced notions on the architecture, organization, configuration and administration of complex operating systems, with special reference to the case of server systems. Hardware equipment and software tools for implementation and maintenance of a server system are analyzed. The course also deals with principles and tools of system security management, regarded as a necessary component of system administration.
By providing the ability to understand practical planning and management problems of advanced operating systems, the course aims at training students for the professional roles of system operator and system administrator.
