To fully grasp the topics of this course it is assumed that the student has acquired basic knowledge in the following topics: soil mechanichs, hydraulics, mechanics of materials and structures
The aim of the course is to provide theoretical approaches in the evaluation of bearing capacity and settlements of shallow and deep foundations.
The following topics will be discussed: 1) bearing capacity and settlements of shallow foundations; 2) soil-foundation interaction; 3) types of pile foundations, bearing capacity of single pile and pile group; 4) pile-soil interaction; 5) the italian code Norme Tecniche per le Costruzioni and geotechnical design.
- soil mechanics (brief) - in situ testing - lateral earth pressure, gravity walls and embedded walls - bearing capacity of shallow and deep foundations - settlements of shallow foundations - soil-structure interaction - design codes - geotechnical design for seismic conditions
